Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will the file get?

WAV to MP3 at 128 kbps about 11×, MP3 at 320 kbps to 128 kbps about 2.5×. Converting speech to mono saves another 50%.

How much space does a minute of audio take?

MP3 at 128 kbps takes about 1 MB per minute, 64 kbps mono (speech) about 0.5 MB. So an hour-long podcast is 30–60 MB.

Can removing silence make it smaller too?

Yes. The Silence tab shortens long pauses, which can cut tens of percent from the length of lectures and meetings.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Audio and recordings are processed right in your browser and never leave your device. Only the tool itself is downloaded from our server, the same for everyone. More in the privacy policy.
